Overview

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most popular and biologically diverse national parks in Uganda. Situated in the western part of the country along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, the park encompasses a variety of ecosystems and habitats that support an abundance of wildlife.

The park covers an area of approximately 1,978 square kilometers (764 square miles), making it the second-largest national park in Uganda after Murchison Falls National Park.

It is located between the towns of Kasese and Rukungiri in the Western Region of Uganda.The park is renowned for its impressive wildlife diversity, boasting of over 95 mammal species and more than 600 bird species.

Some of the key animals found in the park include elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, chimpanzees, and a variety of primates, antelopes, and smaller mammals. The Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George, is home to one of the largest concentrations of hippos in Africa.
