Overview

Murchison Falls National Park is located in northwestern Uganda, along the course of the Victoria Nile River.

The park covers an area of approximately 3,840 square kilometers, making it Uganda’s largest national park.

The park is characterized by a diverse range of habitats, including savanna grasslands, dense forests, wetlands, and the dramatic Murchison Falls.

The iconic Murchison Falls is where the Victoria Nile River forces its way through a narrow 7-meter gap in the rift valley escarpment, creating a magnificent waterfall with a 43-meter drop.Murchison Falls is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including over 76 mammal species and 451 bird species.

Key species include elephants, giraffes, hippos, Nile crocodiles, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, and chimpanzees.

The park is particularly famous for its healthy population of Nile crocodiles and the rare shoebill stork.
